General Peel Protocol for Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic and AHA Kojic Peels
Chemical peels begin with vigorous cleansing of the skin - use our Alpha Beta Cleanser or Daily Exfoliators for pre-peel. Very light peels (Glycolic 10%, Lactic 10%, AHA & Kojic 10%, Salicylic 5% ) only penetrate the dead skin cells that sit atop the epidermis and produce almost no injury. This level of peels is called “exfoliation”. Light/Medium peels (Glycolic 30%-40%, Lactic 30-40%, AHA Kojic 35%, Salicylic 5%) injure the epidermis and stimulate the regeneration of a new epidermis. This level of chemical peels may produce a light burning sensation during the procedure. Recovery from light-medium peels is quick - hence the name “lunchtime” peel. Improvement in the appearance of photoaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, overall facial texture and scarring from acne, is usually subtle at best. Mild injury to the dermis stimulates formation of collagen and “plumps” up the skin, resulting in smoother, younger, and healthier appearance.
For best Skin Renewal and Remodeling, we recommend using our products in combination with Skin Biology products.
How it works:AHA and BHA naturally remove dead skin cells from the surface and loosens damaged skin proteins. This is followed by copper peptides - a natural rebuilding of the skin that removes imperfections, helps to remove old damaged proteins such as sun-damaged collagen and elastin, rebuilds collagen and elastin fibers that tighten skin and improve skin firmness and elasticity, as well as increases the amount and production of glycosamoinoglycans- the moisture-holding proteins that give the skin its firmness(the only true way to moisturize your skin). Biological Oils, such as Emu Oil and Squalane, are used for moisturization and very similar in composition to human skin oils. They act to naturally replenish skin lipids without causing skin damage, and keep the exfoliating skin soft and the new skin protected.
Skin Regeneration and Renewal is dramatically enhanced by using Copper Peptide Serums/Creams and Biological Healing Oils after our AHA/BHA Chemical peels and Daily Exfoliators. In addition, Skin Biology products are built from natural biological ingredients (no alien or synthetic chemicals are added) and do not cause skin damage as many other cosmetical skin care products that are available on the market today.

What should I do to prepare my skin for a chemical peel?
At least three to four weeks before the peel you should stop using exfoliating sponges or buff pads. All forms of hair removal should be discontinued at least three to four weeks before the peel. You should avoid shaving the day of the peel.
Each night before going to bed, starting at least two weeks before the first peel, begin applying a mild Daily Exfoliator - Glycolic 10%, or Lactic 10% or AHA Kojic 10% - to the entire face and to any other areas that will be treated - follow its directions for use. Super GHK-Copper Peptide Serum(for sensitive skin) or CP Serum(2-3 drops for the entire face) can be used after the Daily Exfoliator is rinsed, followed by Emu Oil(if required).
This conditions the skin and begins the exfoliation and remodeling/renewal processes. It also enhances the peel treatment, resulting in a more even peel.
How do I perform a chemical peel?
Peels are performed every 2-3 weeks for 6-8 treatments, gradually increasing the application time. After that, the peel can be performed once a month, but the Daily exfoliator is recommended for every day exfoliation to maintain and enhance peel results. Skin is generally cleansed with Alpha Beta Cleanser or Daily Exfoliator of your choice to encourage deeper peel penetration and increase skin resurfacing - follow product directions for use, rinse and pat dry. The peel solution is applied to a gauze pad and gently applied in a circular buffing motion from forehead to chin. You may experience a light burning sensation during the procedure. Solution is left on the skin for several minutes depending on your acid tolerance, reaction and desired results(initially it is important to follow instructions attached to the peel). Once application time period has been reached peel can be neutralized with a neutralizing solution or rinsed thoroughly with water. Follow with SkinBiology Emu Oil(3-4 drops for the entire face) - this natural oil - very similar in composition to human skin oils - does not clog the pores, has excellent healing properties, and is enriched with antioxidants.
What should I use to take care of my skin after a chemical peel?
During the first week, you should use a mild cleanser - we recommend SkinBiology Gentle Cleanser(that was specifically developed for skin "at risk"). Use fingertips (not a wash cloth) since the skin might be sensitive at this time. Avoid the use of abrasive or exfoliating sponges. After cleansing, pat dry with a clean towel. Skin Biology Super GHK-Copper serum(for sensitive skin) or CP Serum(2-3 drops for the entire face) can be applied to speed up the healing process and help to the skin's renewal and remodeling processes, followed by Biological Healing Emu Oil - to keep the exfoliating skin soft and the new skin protected. You may resume to regular skincare 48 hours after the skin redness(if any) subsides.
For a minimum of one month after the peel procedure you should not have hair removed by any technique. Make up application can be resumed as soon as there is no presence of redness, irritation, or tenderness of the skin.
Sun Alert: Avoid sun exposure - this includes tanning beds. Sunlight on the skin after a peel can cause brown discoloration of the new skin. A sunscreen of minimum SPF 25 or higher should be applied every morning before going outdoors.
